The greatest of our ancient masters like Valmiki and Vyasa frequently say things which mean one thing when we casually listen to them but quite different things when we pause and think about them, often meaning more than one thing at a time. Speaking of Indian philosophers, the French historian of philosophy EWF Tomlin once said that “Indian thought arrives at subtleties of distinction so varied and acute that the uninitiated and unprepared reader may well receive the impression that Indian philosophers enjoy the use of half a dozen intellects instead of one.” The authors of our epics belong to that category of masters and to understand them and truly appreciate them, we have to delve deep into what they say. Journey through Mahabharata is the result of my attempts at different times to travel to the hidden depths of the epic.
